KENNETH EDWIN HILL October 6, 1925 - January 25, 2015 Kenneth Edwin Hill, age 89, of Menahga, MN formerly of Twig, MN, peacefully passed from this life to eternal life on Sunday morning, January 25, 2015 at the Lakewood Health Center in Staples, MN with his loved ones at his side. Ken was born on October 6, 1925 in Duluth, MN to John & Jennie (Salo) Hill. He attended public school in Cloquet, MN. As a young man he learned the value of good hard work helping on his dad's farm and in his blacksmith shop. In 1946, Ken entered the United States Army where he served in Korea until receiving his honorable discharge. Ken then returned home to Cloquet and began working for the Potlatch Lumber Company in a career that spanned over 37 years. On January 9, 1953, Ken was united in marriage to Theresa Arlene Grangruth in Esko, MN. This union was blessed with seven children: Janet who died in infancy, Vickie, Wayne, Kevin, Jon, Laurie who died at ten months of age and Steven. The Hill family made their home in Cloquet until purchasing a farm northwest of Duluth. Ken loved farm life. He took pride in raising a fine herd of Hereford beef cattle and later Holstein dairy cattle which he along with the help of his sons milked and cared for daily. He worked long hours out in the fields after working all day at Potlatch to put up feed for his cattle. He loved the out doors and especially enjoyed fishing when time allowed. After retiring they moved to Menahga in the early 1990's. Ken was an excellent carpenter and over the years, he helped build new churches in Esko, Twig, Hermantown, Duluth and Park Rapids. He was a man of faith and enjoyed worshipping at Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids and formerly was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hermantown. Above all, Ken will be remembered as a man who devoted his life to his precious wife, Theresa; his children and his dearly loved grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Theresa of Menahga; his children: Vickie (Bill) Huard of New Brighton, MN, Wayne (Jody) Hill of Twig, Kevin (Vicki) Hill of Tower, MN, Jon of Menahga and Steven of Duluth; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; a brother, Lyle (Fran) Hill of Cloquet and two sisters: Lillian Biebl of Cloquet and Karen (Mike) Sheff of Wrenshal, MN as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his two daughters; a grandson, Jason and his parents. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids with the Reverend Marty Giese officiating. Bill and Jan Lundsten will sing, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and Peggy LaPine will sing, "How great Thou Art". Ken's grandchildren will be his urn bearers: Amy Andersen, Craig Huard, Jenny Staloch, Travis Hill, Tiffany Hill, Jason Hill (posthumously), Joshua Hill, Jeremy Hill, Joseph Hill, Jacob Hill, Daniel Hill, Eric Hill and Jessica Hill. Interment will be made in the Alajoki Cemetery near Menahga. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
